Debora Hirsch's 150-Square-Meter Video Installation on Genoa Rooftop

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Brazilian artist Debora Hirsch (São Paulo, 1967) presents Plantalia, a 150-square-meter video installation on the rooftop of Terrazza Colombo in Genoa, 120 meters high, until October 20, 2024. The work is part of the second edition of the cultural program Echoes of the Mediterranean by the digital art platform NEXUS, curated by Pietro Battarra and Pietro Cattai. Plantalia explores Mediterranean biodiversity through immersive digital art, combining traditional painting, drawing, artificial intelligence, and animation. Hirsch, who holds an industrial engineering background and an MBA from SDA Bocconi and resides in Milan, reinterprets Ligurian plant species in imaginary worlds. The installation also includes a series of video works focusing on three endemic flowers: Anacamptis Palustris, Aquilegia barbaricina, and Marcus-kochia triloba. The project uses blockchain technology to create a digital ecosystem preserving plant species. The curators describe Plantalia as an immersive experience that temporarily alters the city's face, challenging the boundaries of art and technology.
