other · 2026-04-27

The body of Graziano Origa, a Sardinian artist and cartoonist, was recovered last night at Poetto in Quartu, Sardinia. A passerby noticed the body and alerted authorities, including the carabinieri and the Port Authority. The corpse was transferred to the San Michele cemetery for examination to determine the circumstances of his death. Origa, who lived in his hometown of Dolianova, was known as the 'paper artist' for his work on paper. In the 1970s, he directed the underground magazine Gong and founded Studio Origa with aspiring cartoonists including Corrado Roi, Fabio Civitelli, and Ena Riboldi, who later worked on Dylan Dog, Tex, and Dampyr for Bonelli Editore. He created the Punk Art movement, a philosophy expressed through transgressive happenings and photo-graphic works depicting Italian cultural and political figures from Moro to Pier Paolo Pasolini, Sid Vicious, and Giorgio Armani. He became a protagonist of the decadent fashion monthly Punk Artist and in 1980 directed the film Punk Artist The Movie and published the volume Diary of a Punk Artist. He also authored the magazine Fumetti d'Italia, published from 1992 to 2001, featuring reports, interviews, and biographies of major comics authors. Origa is remembered as 'a punk before punk' and leaves behind iconic characters like Videomax, characterized by a simple, linear style.
