De Prospectiva Pingendi: Fifteen Italian Painters in Todi
In the medieval hill town of Todi, Umbria, the exhibition 'De Prospectiva Pingendi. Nuovi scenari della pittura italiana' opened as part of a cultural renewal project backed by mayor Antonino Ruggiano. Curated by Massimo Mattioli, the show spans two historic palaces: Palazzo del Popolo (in the newly restored Sala delle Pietre) and Palazzo del Vignola, whose entrance portal is by the Mannerist architect and treatise writer. Mattioli selected fifteen artists with about fifty works, inspired by Piero della Francesca's treatise on perspective, organizing them into three categories: disegno (drawing figures), coloro (coloring), and commensurazio (spatial arrangement). The exhibition surveys Italian painting from the 1990s to today, featuring diverse styles: Nicola Samorì's revised figurative tradition, Nicola Verlato's classic figures with American influences, Thomas Braida's surreal scenes, Simone Berti's ironic Flemish-avant-garde hybrids, Antonio Bardino's dreamlike landscapes, Angelo Bellobono's hazy intuitive works, Danilo Buccella's rarefied atmospheres, Andrea Chiesi's underground landscapes, Laura Lambroni's informal research, Gioacchino Pontrelli's pseudo-emotional figurations, Marco Neri's large installation, Alessandro Cannistà's smoke drawings, Mario Consiglio's ironic image alterations, Giuseppe Adamo's deceptive abstraction, and Silvia Mei's colorful characters.
