De Keersmaeker and Fillet Present Belle-Île at MACS
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Steven Fillet will showcase their collaborative work at MACS (Musée d'art contemporain de la Sorbonne) this autumn, following their debut at Xavier Hufkens Gallery in Brussels earlier this year. The exhibition, titled Belle-Île, features seven monumental paintings displayed in the Salle Pont. The project originated in autumn 2024 on Belle-Île-en-Mer, an island off the coast of Brittany, where the artists worked outdoors, away from their studio, in a landscape described as open, in constant flux, and eluding control. A canvas measuring five by twenty meters was laid out at the edge of the ocean, creating a striking white field that contrasts with the surrounding environment of water, wind, and light. The work encompasses a hundred square meters of white space, serving as both canvas and dance floor, reflecting the artists' interdisciplinary approach combining visual art and performance.
