Dawit L. Petros Wins Scotiabank Photography Award, Major Survey at Image Centre

Dawit L. Petros, a Montreal-based artist, has been named the winner of the 2025 Scotiabank Photography Award, one of Canada's most prestigious honors for contemporary photography. In recognition, The Image Centre (IMC) in Toronto will mount a major survey of his work from May 6 to August 1, 2026. The exhibition spans over two decades of Petros's practice, featuring more than 60 photographs and serigraphs. It traces colonial legacies across Africa, Europe, and North America, highlighting his research-driven approach. Petros's layered works combine archival photographs, color interventions, and minimalist compositions to question photography's documentary authority and challenge outdated historical narratives.
