Davide Toffolo's graphic novel explores a stolen Magnus original
Italian cartoonist and musician Davide Toffolo has released "Come rubare un Magnus" (Oblomov Edizioni, 2020), a graphic novel that blends fiction and biography. The story begins in 2005 in Pordenone, where an original board by Magnus (Roberto Raviola) is stolen during a retrospective. Toffolo, alongside his blind physiotherapist and curator Paola Bistrot, investigates the theft, opening doors to Magnus's life and iconic characters: Kriminal, Satanik, Alan Ford (created with Max Bunker), Lo Sconosciuto, Le femmine incantate, Necron, and a Tex Willer episode published posthumously after seven years of work. Toffolo describes Magnus as his childhood favorite artist, later a professional reference and obsession. The book, serialized in Linus, took twelve years to complete, starting in 2008. Toffolo notes the project reconnected him with many people, some now deceased, and reflects on his own path as a cartoonist and the bond between authors, including Bonvi. The volume, 152 pages, €20, was released in late 2020 and is considered among the best comics of the year.
