Davide Toffolo paints a basketball court in Pordenone to honor Pasolini

artist · 2026-04-26

Davide Toffolo, a cartoonist from Pordenone, has created a public artwork on a basketball court in via Brigata Lupi di Toscana, Pordenone, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pier Paolo Pasolini's death. The project, promoted by Playground APS and part of the broader Ri-Generando initiative for Pordenone's bid as Italian Capital of Culture 2027, transforms the disused playground into a permanent monumental piece. The design features human figures emerging from a blue background, like ghosts lying on the ground, visually reworking a scene from Toffolo's theatrical show with the band Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, where a 'young dead boy' (Toffolo himself) reconstructs Pasolini's body. The basketball court's lines become narrative structure: shooting areas, circles, and mid-court serve as comic panels. Over forty students from a local high school participated in a workshop covering street art, Pasolini's work, communication, and design. Toffolo had previously engaged with Pasolini in his 2002 graphic novel 'Intervista a Pasolini' and subsequent concerts and live performances.
