Davide Serpetti's First Solo Show in Rome Explores Gender Identity

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Davide Serpetti (born 1990 in L'Aquila) presents his first solo exhibition in Rome, redefining the synergies of male and female identities through vivid, timeless faces. The artistic operation negates the assumption that gender difference remains constant, creating a collection of similar yet elusive faces that resist fixed connections. Concepts of identity and recognition are updated by serial modifications to physiognomies and by sleep, which annuls behavioral determinism. The show's scenographic culmination is the installation 'I miss you more when I have happy moments to share' (2021), created by Serpetti in collaboration with Karol Sudolski. A 3D-printed sculpture sits on a pedestal, solitary and imposing in an otherwise empty dark room. Otherness, mediated by moving digital patterns, becomes autonomous, re-signified by the dynamism of supporting lights and colors. Awake, in mediated identity, there is the wonder of existing and discovering oneself both close and different.
