Davide Reviati Illustrates Stig Dagerman's 'Ho remato per un lord'

Italian artist Davide Reviati (Ravenna, 1966) has illustrated a new edition of Stig Dagerman's 1947 short story 'Ho remato per un lord', published by Coconino Press in collaboration with Else Edizioni. The book, released in 2021, features Reviati's distinctive graphic style that blends figurative illustration with painterly abstraction, evoking comparisons to Anselm Kiefer. The story follows a lord and a young boatman on a journey of self-discovery, exploring themes of growth, limits, and utopia. Reviati's artwork uses stark white and gray tones with deep black shadows, creating a suspended atmosphere that mirrors the narrative. The preface by Goffredo Fofi praises Reviati as an exceptional illustrator who acts as a 'distant brother' to the author. The book is available in two versions, including a limited edition of 500 numbered and signed copies with silkscreen cover.
