exhibition · 2026-04-07

Lighting designer Davide Groppi (born 1963, Piacenza) presents his first retrospective exhibition, 'Un'ora di luce', at Volumnia gallery in Piacenza, curated by Marco Sammicheli and hosted by Enrica De Micheli. The show runs until May 26 in a deconsecrated late-16th-century church. It traces Groppi's career from his 1985 start in a 25-square-meter workshop to his three Compasso d'Oro awards, including the 2010 'Nulla' lamp. The exhibition features products, prototypes, and artistic research, with installations evoking cosmic themes. Groppi cites influences from Ingo Maurer, Dieter Rams, Caravaggio, Donald Judd, Sol LeWitt, James Turrell, Fausto Melotti, Ettore Spalletti, and Alberto Burri. He credits LED technology around 2007-2008 as a turning point, enabling his minimalist approach.
