Davide Bertuccio Wins Canon Prize at Cortona On The Move

The 2020 edition of Cortona On The Move, an international documentary photography festival in the Tuscan countryside, has shifted its focus to visual narrative and aims to create a collective memory archive about the pandemic. Among the featured photographers is Davide Bertuccio, a Milanese photojournalist born in 1991, who was named among the top 10 Italian under-25 photographers in 2014. His project "The Silent Clapping of their Hands" documents the Circincà, a home circus run by Claudio, offering a poetic refuge from the pandemic. The work won the Canon prize at the festival. Bertuccio, who studied Medical Biotechnology in Milan, cites influences including August Sander, Erwin Olaf, Richard Avedon, and Gregory Crewdson. He also highlights emerging photographers Emile Ducke and Nanna Heitmann (both born 1994). His past work includes a project on plastic pollution in the Mediterranean, and he is currently researching a new project on climate change and renewable energy.
