David Zwirner to open $50 million New York headquarters designed by Renzo Piano in 2020

David Zwirner will establish a new five-story gallery at 540 West 21st Street in New York, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano with a $50 million budget. Scheduled to open in 2020, this space will serve as the gallery's headquarters and represents Zwirner's seventh global location and fourth in New York. Construction begins this spring as part of a residential development by investor Uri Chaitchik of Casco Development, though the gallery will be a separate structure. The announcement coincides with the gallery's 25th anniversary celebrations this month. Once operational, the West 19th Street location is likely to close, with Zwirner expressing concern about excessive possibilities in an interview with the New York Times. Additionally, a 900-square-meter gallery in Hong Kong opens on January 27, marking the gallery's first Asian presence.
