David Zwirner Books Partners with Simon & Schuster for North American Distribution

publication · 2026-05-04

David Zwirner Books, the publishing arm of the blue-chip David Zwirner gallery, has signed a distribution deal with Simon & Schuster, effective August 2019. This partnership makes David Zwirner the first US gallery to secure a major publishing distribution contract. Simon & Schuster, with operations in over 200 countries and 1,300 employees, has received 56 Pulitzer Prizes, 18 National Book Awards, 11 National Book Critics Circle Awards, and 8 Grammy Awards. The collaboration will give Zwirner's art books—catalogs, monographs, historical surveys, artist books, and catalogues raisonnés—wider visibility in airports, design stores, and on Amazon. Lucas Zwirner, editorial director, noted that galleries are evolving beyond art sales into publishing, podcasts, video content, and online businesses. Michael Perlman, vice president and general manager of Simon & Schuster services, praised Zwirner's editorial focus and quality. The deal may also lead to publishing fiction, reflecting a broader interdisciplinary approach.
