David Tremlett's Early Works at Studio Cipelletti in Milan

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The private studio of architect Luca Cipelletti in Milan hosts a museum-quality exhibition of British artist David Tremlett, featuring works from 1974 to 1991, some previously unseen. The show includes a new walldrawing created for the space. Tremlett, born in 1945 in St. Austell, has a long-standing friendship and collaboration with Cipelletti, having worked together on projects including the Museo della Merda in Castelbosco (Piacenza), the Niasca farm in Portofino, the restoration of Milan's science and technology museum, and private and public spaces in Milan, Paris, Venice, and Bari. The exhibition, titled "Conversazioni tra arte e architettura," explores the relationship between art and architectural design. Early works like "Two Curves" (1974) and "Two from Boulder" (1975) demonstrate Tremlett's minimalist approach, using graphite applied with fingertips to create rigorous formal syntheses that engage with spatial dynamics. The display is curated in close synergy between artist and architect. The exhibition runs until April 9, with visits by appointment until May 5, at AR.CH.IT Luca Cipelletti, Via Pasquale Paoli 8. The show is curated by Luca Cipelletti with coordination by Massimo Valsecchi.
