David Reimondo's 'Etimografia' Debuts at Mazzoleni Gallery in Turin

exhibition · 2026-05-04

David Reimondo (Genoa, 1972) presents 'Etimografia' at Mazzoleni Gallery in Turin, a project eight years in the making (2010–2018) that transforms the study of phonetics and morphology into sculptures and installations. The work explores the origins of Chinese writing, where signs originally depicted objects through external form, and creates new graphemes (ideograms, pictograms, glyphs) using mixed media including wood painted with black printer ink, papier-mâché, needles and cotton threads, and RGB LED panels. The exhibition marks the first public showing of this demiurgic symbol-generation project, which derives a new language as an 'act of thought' that transcends into the creation of blazing concepts. From the signifier emerges a new meaning; from the subject arises the need to name a previously unknown object. The review is by Federica Maria Giallombardo.
