David Magán's 'Perceptual Axes' Opens at Opera Gallery Madrid
On May 8, Opera Gallery Madrid will inaugurate 'Perceptual Axes,' the first solo exhibition of David Magán at the gallery. The show brings together works from five key series dating from 2017, characterized by rigor and a poetic approach. Magán uses light as a constructive element, organizing space with Cartesian clarity; light generates form rather than illuminating it, modeling volumes and defining invisible axes. Inspired partly by Lewis Carroll's 'Through the Looking-Glass,' reflective and translucent materials disrupt visual certainties, revealing and concealing simultaneously. The exhibition unfolds as a system of relations between line and plane, volume and void, light and matter. Many works appear weightless, suspended or slightly separated from the wall, creating delicate atmospheric conditions that heighten perception of balance, gravity, and spatial orientation. Underlying the apparent immateriality are architectural analyses; Magán's work is grounded in precise constructive systems, integrating engineering and geometry into the conceptual base. The exhibition runs at Opera Gallery Madrid, with the artist's video 'In the Studio' available on YouTube.
