cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

David Lynch's 1997 film Lost Highway (Strade perdute) is returning to Italian cinemas for a limited three-day run from January 16 to 18, 2023, in a newly restored 4K version. The restoration was undertaken by The Criterion Collection under Lynch's supervision. The film will screen in 115 theaters across Italy, distributed by Il Cinema Ritrovato, which previously brought restored classics like Videodrome and Psycho to Italian audiences. Lost Highway is the first of several restored films scheduled for 2023, including Vittorio De Sica's Sciuscià (February 6), Walter Hill's The Warriors (March 6), and Luis Buñuel's Él (April 3). The film stars Bill Pullman, Patricia Arquette, and Robert Loggia, with a soundtrack produced by Trent Reznor featuring Angelo Badalamenti, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, and Rammstein. Lost Highway is considered the first part of an informal trilogy that includes Mulholland Drive (2001) and Inland Empire (2006).
