David Hockney's 2026 Serpentine North Exhibition Announced
David Hockney (Bradford, 1937) will have his first major exhibition at Serpentine North in London from March 12 to August 23, 2026. The show will feature recent works including Moon Room, paintings from the Sunrise series, and Year in Normandy, a 90-meter-long frieze inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry depicting seasonal changes in Hockney's Normandy studio. During the 2020 Covid lockdown, Hockney created over 100 iPad images in weeks, capturing scenes with rapid precision and light changes akin to Impressionism. His career includes iconic 1960s experimental works, Hollywood pool series (e.g., A Bigger Splash, Beverly Hills Housewife), 1980s photographic collages with Cubist language, and ongoing exploration of technology from Polaroid to fax to iPad. The immersive multimedia exhibition Lightroom, first presented in London and now touring, covers 60 years of his career. Serpentine CEO Bettina Korek and artistic director Hans Ulrich Obrist called the exhibition a highlight of their spring/summer season, emphasizing free public access.
