David Edwards: Bridging Art and Science at Le Laboratoire
In 2007, David Edwards, a researcher from Harvard, established Le Laboratoire in Paris to foster collaboration between artists and scientists. He authored 'Artscience,' which posits that the realms of science and art are inherently linked. Each year, Le Laboratoire facilitates three collaborative projects that culminate in exhibitions or tangible works, featuring contributions from Fabrice Hyber and Robert Langer on stem cells, as well as Shilpa Gupta and Mahzarin Banaji on the theme of fear. Currently, Edwards is collaborating with William Kentridge. The facility includes a FoodLab, media library, LaboShop, and LaboBrain, sustained through partnerships, educational grants, and commercial ventures. Emerging from the Cloud association, it aids underprivileged youth. Recent initiatives include Musetrek and Whiff, while the ongoing exhibition highlights François Azambourg and Don E. Ingber. Edwards plans to release a 'Manifesto of the Laboratory' in January.
