David Dale Gallery's Inaugural Show Features Melting Ice and Candle Sculptures in Glasgow

David Dale Gallery & Studios in Glasgow's Bridgeton area opened a two-person exhibition in 2012, featuring works by Kate V Robertson and Kilian Rüthemann. Robertson contributed Untitled (Refresh), a melting ice sculpture suspended from the ceiling, and Untitled (Wane), a large burning candle. Rüthemann presented three steel sheets leaning against girders and another on the stairs. The gallery, named after 18th-century businessman David Dale, is directed by Ellie Royle, Max Slaven, and Ralph Mackenzie, who curate with attention to the postindustrial architecture and local context. Located in a historically industrial district once known for cotton milling, the gallery favors introducing artists from outside Glasgow, such as Danish artist Søren Hüttel, who created The Eclectic Is Now in 2011. Other artists in residency programs included Kevin McPhee and Darren Tesar. The area remains in need of regeneration, providing space for artistic endeavors. Glasgow's art scene includes institutional spaces and artist-run galleries like SWG3 and Transmission Gallery.
