David Chipperfield unveils Tambre plywood bathtub for Agape
David Chipperfield Design has created Tambre, a freestanding plywood bathtub for Italian bathroom brand Agape, launched during Milan design week. The collection includes baths in two sizes and a family of washbasins made from okumè plywood, chosen for its warm tone, fine grain, and water resistance. The tub features an integrated seat, shelf, and washbasin, with a cantilevered basin merging into the rear section. Technical elements are concealed to maintain a streamlined silhouette. The design references Japanese bathing rituals with a version including a shelf and shower. Tambre is named after a river in Galicia, Spain, a region with a thermal spring bathing culture. Chipperfield, a Pritzker Prize winner, has a holiday home in Galicia and a foundation supporting local revitalization. His studio's previous product designs include a modular workstation for e15 and a Moka espresso maker for Alessi.
