architecture-design · 2026-04-20

Adjaye Associates, the architectural practice led by UK-Ghanaian architect David Adjaye, has been chosen to design the new home for the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in New Delhi. The selection came from a competitive field of more than 45 applicants. The museum, which was established in 2010 by art collector and philanthropist Kiran Nadar, aims to broaden public access to modern and contemporary art. Its new building will house the institution's extensive collection of over 6,000 works from India and the wider Subcontinent. The design concept, described as a 'Veil of Triangles,' draws inspiration from natural sacred geometries found in trees and mountains. In addition to gallery spaces, the center will include dedicated areas for art exhibitions and performance. Founder Kiran Nadar praised the design for creating a cinematic visitor experience, guiding people from the street through an atrium to a lush rooftop garden. The KNMA also serves as the primary commissioner for the Indian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, with this year's edition curated by the museum's chief curator Roobina Karode. The new building is expected to become a leading cultural institution in India.
