exhibition · 2026-04-22

On Thursday, 18 October, from 19:00 to 20:30, David A. Bailey, an artist and curator, will engage in a discussion with editor and researcher Louis Hartnoll at Whitechapel Gallery. This event is part of the Exhibition Histories Talks series, co-organized with Afterall. The focus will be on 'Mirage: Enigmas of Race, Difference and Desire,' a two-month exhibition that took place at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London, in 1995. This exhibition explored themes from Frantz Fanon's 'Black Skin, White Masks' through various mediums, including artworks, performances, and film screenings, while addressing issues of anti-colonialism, psychoanalysis, and critical race theory. Tickets are priced at £9.50 (£7.50 for concessions) and can be purchased via the Whitechapel Gallery website. The Exhibition Histories series is published by Afterall in collaboration with the Asia Art Archive in Hong Kong and the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, with distribution by Koenig Books, London.
