Daunia Land Art residency on Puglia's transhumance trails

other · 2026-05-05

The Daunia Land Art project, organized by ArcheoLogica s.r.l., invites young artists and architects from Italian and foreign academies to apply by August 6 for an August 24–31 residency along the transhumance paths of the Gargano region in Puglia. Twelve selected participants will work with Cuban artist Lázaro Saavedra, invited by curator Giacomo Zaza, to create site-specific interventions. The creative area spans the Foggia-Campolato tratturo and the historic Campolato-Vieste trail, which once guided livestock from the Gargano plateau to the coastal town of Vieste. Saavedra will intervene in the stretch between Monte Sant'Angelo and San Giovanni Rotondo, where the tratturo meets the Via Francigena, a medieval pilgrimage route. The residency includes lectures with archaeologists, landscape architects, and scholars, field surveys, and dialogues with local communities to map the territory's devotional and rural economy characteristics. The final event on August 31 will present the artistic experience to the local community. The project is supported by the Puglia Region, Puglia Promozione, and the Province of Foggia.
