Darren Almond's Dual Exhibitions Probe Time, Labor, and Landscape
British artist Darren Almond (b. 1971) presents two solo exhibitions in London: one at White Cube from 10 January to 23 February 2008, and another at Parasol Unit from 18 January to 30 March 2008. Both exhibitions feature photography, installation, and video that delve into the concept of time. At White Cube, large-format photographs (2000–07) capture English landscapes illuminated by moonlight through long exposure techniques. Parasol Unit displays black-and-white images of devastated snowy forests near Norilsk, Siberia (Night + Fog, 2007), emphasizing environmental contamination. Video pieces include "In The Between" (2006), showcasing the railway from Xining to Lhasa and its effects on Tibetan culture, and "Bearing" (2007), which focuses on sulfur harvesters in a Javanese volcano crater. Additionally, a wall of 600 digital clocks (Tide, 2008) represents the passage of time.
