Dargen D'Amico Opens Newsstand at Sanremo Festival to Discuss Migration

Italian rapper and singer-songwriter Dargen D'Amico, competing at the Sanremo Festival with his song "Onda Alta" about migration and European governance, launched "Edicola Dargen – Incontri sull'Onda Alta" in Piazza Muccioli 16 from February 6 to 10, 2024. The newsstand hosts daily talks moderated by Maura Gancitano and Andrea Colamedici of Tlon, a cultural research and publishing project, featuring journalists and humanitarian representatives. Each talk is titled after a lyric from the song: on February 6, journalist Valerio Nicolosi discusses migration journeys; on February 7, Cecilia Strada of ResQ Onlus addresses migration policies; on February 8, the BabelNova Orchestra performs ahead of a tribute to Ennio Morricone with Dargen D'Amico; on February 9, director Olmo Parenti and SOS Mediterranee rescuer Alessandro Porro talk about sea rescue and European policies; on February 10, geopolitical journalist Leila Belhadj Mohamed examines media portrayal of migrants. A daily magazine with a comic strip by illustrator Daniel Cuello is distributed free each morning. LEGO participates by transforming the space into a starting point for a "Mini Dargen LEGO" hunt, with a map guiding fans to find mini-figures across Sanremo, and floral compositions from the LEGO Botanica line.
