Darcy Ribeiro Centenary Exhibition at Sesc 24 de Maio Explores Brazilian Utopia

Sesc São Paulo inaugurates 'Utopia brasileira – Darcy Ribeiro 100 anos' at Sesc 24 de Maio, an exhibition celebrating the centenary of the Brazilian anthropologist, educator, historian, and essayist Darcy Ribeiro, who would have turned 100 in 2022. Curated by Isa Grinspum Ferraz, the show highlights the contemporary relevance of his public intellectual work. The exhibition features photographs, correspondence, documents, films from his 1940s work with Indigenous peoples, personal collection items, contemporary artworks, books, music, and a new installation by Eryk Rocha and Marcelo Ferraz. Grinspum Ferraz emphasizes the exhibition is not merely a memorial but aims to bring forth the potency and timeliness of Ribeiro's ideas, particularly in the context of Brazil's current social inequality, which he described as a rupture of society's ethical nerve. The exhibition runs until June 25, 2023, with free admission from Tuesday to Saturday, 9 AM to 9 PM, and Sundays and holidays, 9 AM to 6 PM.
