Dara Birnbaum Symposium and Screening at Tate Modern
To commemorate the release of T.J. Demos' book 'Dara Birnbaum: Technology/Transformation: Wonder Woman' as part of Afterall's One Work series, Tate Modern is curating a program featuring Dara Birnbaum's innovative video art. This event will partially recreate a 1980 screening at The Collective for Living Cinema, showcasing 'Mirroring', 'Control Piece', and 'Technology/Transformation: Wonder Woman'. Following the screening, a conversation with Birnbaum and Demos will occur. Demos, who teaches in the history of art department at University College London, examines how Birnbaum employs both low-end and high-end video technology to challenge mass media representations. The symposium is scheduled for May 30, 2023, with support from Wilkinson Gallery, London.
