Danny Boyle's '28 Years Later' premieres in Italy June 18, 2025
Danny Boyle returns to direct '28 Years Later,' the sequel to '28 Days Later,' releasing in Italian theaters on June 18, 2025 via Eagle Pictures. Set nearly three decades after the rage virus escaped a bioweapons lab, survivors live on a protected island connected by a single causeway. When one leaves for a mission inland, they discover secrets and horrors that have mutated both the infected and other survivors. Boyle co-wrote the film with Alex Garland, who had long discussed a sequel. The director noted the 28-year time jump allowed inclusion of Brexit and the Teletubbies. The film is the first of a new autonomous trilogy. Boyle used iPhones and drones to avoid intruding on nature, embracing imperfections. He observed that horror now attracts wider audiences, including women, and helps exorcise real-world horrors. The director described his own 'infection' as curiosity, not rage.
