Danielle De Picciotto: Music, Art, and the Love Parade

Danielle De Picciotto, born in Tacoma in 1965, is a multidisciplinary artist and musician. In 1989, she co-founded the first Love Parade in Berlin with Dr. Motte and The Ocean Club with Gudrun Gut. She has been a vocalist for Space Cowboys and Die Haut, collaborating with Nick Cave, Anita Lane, Lydia Lunch, Kim Gordon, Alan Vega, Blixa Bargeld, and Hacke. In 2001, she formed the experimental duo hackedepicciotto with Alexander Hacke, whom she married in 2006. They joined the 2012 reunion of Crime & the City Solution and toured Europe in 2022 for their album The Silver Threshold (2021, Mute). De Picciotto has released three solo albums, the latest being The Element of Love (February 2022, Broken Clover). Her visual art has been exhibited at MOCA Indianapolis, MOCAD Detroit, London Museum of Art Ontario, and FilmMuseum Frankfurt. In 2009, she was commissioned by the German Foreign Ministry for an animated short on European club culture. In 2014, she composed for the Dortmund Theater with Hacke, Mick Harvey, and Paul Wallfisch. In 2016, she taught at ZKM Karlsruhe. She views art as a vehicle for truth and emphasizes discipline and clarity. She is currently working on an art catalog, a solo album, lyrics for hackedepicciotto, two exhibitions, and a poetry book.
