Daniele Spanò and Luca Brinchi's 'Aminta' Reimagines Tasso's Pastoral Drama with Multimedia

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Daniele Spanò and Luca Brinchi's 'Aminta' is a contemporary hybrid installation-performance that reinterprets Torquato Tasso's pastoral drama. The work respects the original plot and chronology, divided into five acts with a prologue, featuring characters Silvia, Aminta, Tirsi, Dafne, and a satyr antagonist, plus a chorus. However, the dramaturgy, developed with Erika Z. Galli and Martina Ruggeri (Industria Indipendente), disrupts unity of space and time, replacing live actors with screens and speakers. The chorus becomes projected mouths on cloths moved by fans. Aminta (Lorenzo Anzuini) and Silvia (Clelia Scarpellini) appear as video portraits, their voices layered with electronic music by Franz Rosati. Dafne and Tirsi are mobile loudspeakers acting as metronomes. Live actors appear only twice: Brinchi tattoos the motto 'S'ei piace, ei lice' on his hand, and bodybuilder Davide Pioggia portrays the satyr tying Silvia to a tree. The violence is distilled through trained muscles controlling blood flow. The piece premiered at Teatro di Roma.
