Daniele Sigalot's Largest Solo Show Opens at Reggia di Caserta

Daniele Sigalot's 'Tutto è già Vostro' is his largest solo exhibition to date, installed in the 18th-century back rooms of the Reggia di Caserta. The show creates a continuum between past and present, blending 18th-century colors and forms with contemporary ones. Seven rooms trace both Sigalot's career—from his early days as an advertiser in London to his work with the duo Blue&Joy (2007-2014) and his current solo practice—and the history of the palace. The exhibition is an homage to Charles III of Bourbon, inspired by the words of the Ercolanesi academics in the first volume of 'Le Antichità di Ercolano Esposte'. Sigalot's signature aluminum paper airplanes are embedded in walls, as in 'Il cielo ai piedi di Astrea', which echoes the floor pattern of the Vanvitelli-designed room. A white frame encloses a Bic pen that Sigalot claims 'has only had good ideas'. In the totem room, stacks of 'paper' represent discarded ideas. 'If you show me your empathy, I’ll show you mine' is a self-portrait in polished steel with an 18th-century frame, impossible to see oneself in. 'Enough' is a dual-powered digital chronometer that started on April 28, 2016, and will count until April 28, 3016, challenging the eternity of the Reggia. Sigalot aims to astonish millions of visitors already captivated by neoclassical and baroque beauty.
