Daniele Ninarello's Pastorale: Choreographing Queer Temporality and Collective Gesture
On May 19, at Teatro Franco Parenti in Milan, choreographer Daniele Ninarello showcased Pastorale as part of the Più che Danza! festival. This piece delves into the body as a vessel of knowledge and new landscapes, drawing inspiration from Paul Klee's artwork Pastorale (Rhythm). It incorporates a golden rectangle designed by Gianni Staropoli, a continuous bass line created by composer Dan Kinzelman, and features four performers engaged in collective gesture writing. Ninarello advocates for a non-hierarchical unity, crafting a transitional space that suspends identity and challenges conventional time through a queer lens. Pastorale is set to be performed on June 19 and 20 at Fertili Terreni Teatro in Turin, as well as at the Inequilibrio and Kilowatt festivals. The choreography runs for 50 minutes, highlighting moments of pause and silence.
