Daniele Mazzoleni's [A]MARE at Spazio Sintesi Blends Pop Aesthetics and Ecological Awareness

Daniele Mazzoleni's solo exhibition [A]MARE is on view at Spazio Sintesi in Palermo until June 26, 2026. Curated by Stefania Morici, the show explores the relationship between humans, memory, and the sea through paintings in acrylic and two-component resin that hover between Pop Art and photorealism. The title fuses 'amare' (to love) and 'mare' (sea), reflecting a dual focus on aesthetic beauty and environmental responsibility. Mazzoleni, a Milanese artist born in 1970, uses resin to create transparent, luminous surfaces that evoke the liquid quality of water. His crisp, photographic style contrasts with Gerhard Richter's blurred seascapes, while serial compositions and color rhythms reference Wayne Thiebaud. Works include coastal views like 'Le spiagge' and 'Aquarama', female figures in 'Synchro Water Ballet', and pieces addressing human-environment balance, such as a canvas of Palermo's Pescheria market and one of pink flamingos. Critic Federico Caloi has termed Mazzoleni's approach 'Human Pop', a reinterpretation of Pop Art that prioritizes shared, accessible imagery over consumerism. The artist's recent projects include the 2023 portrait series 'Tra la Perduta Gente', the 2025 collection 'Quello che mi piace', and the 2026 'Enjoy the Snow' for the Milan-Cortina Olympics. Spazio Sintesi, a former industrial building converted by Rosa Vetrano and Ninni Fiore, hosts the exhibition with patronage from the Comune di Palermo and support from Settimana delle Culture.
