Daniela De Lorenzo and Chiara Bettazzi's Lockdown Friendship at Museo Marino Marini
The exhibition 'Andature' at Museo Marino Marini in Florence showcases the collaborative works of artists Daniela De Lorenzo and Chiara Bettazzi, whose friendship and artistic partnership began during the first COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020. Curated by Marcella Cangioli, Antonella Nicola, and Saretto Cincinelli, the show explores themes of time, cyclicality, chaos, entropy, order, and disorder. Central to the exhibition are two video installations created during lockdown: 'Leitmotiv' and 'Effetto a distanza'. 'Effetto a distanza' features objects reminiscent of an alchemist's cabinet or the intarsia of the Studiolo of Urbino, creating a metaphysical and orderly atmosphere. In contrast, 'Leitmotiv' presents a chaotic array of objects transformed into a pile of debris by an invisible gesture. The exhibition also includes individual works: De Lorenzo's white paper sculptures 'Gag' (2019-20) and 'Schock' (2020), and the diptych 'Dove sei' (2019); Bettazzi's photographic series 'Still Life (quarto ciclo – aste)' (2020), which updates Flemish still lifes with everyday kitsch objects, and the site-specific installation 'Senza titolo (momenti di passaggio)' (2021), described as a baroque dance between mannerism and chaos. The show documents works created during the pandemic, which served as a catalyst for their friendship and artistic collaboration.
