Daniela d'Arielli's Hydrographic Cartography at Monitor Pereto

exhibition · 2026-04-27

At Monitor gallery in Pereto, Abruzzo, Daniela d'Arielli (born 1978, Ortona) presents 'A te', an exhibition reimagining geographic maps by foregrounding water over land. The centerpiece is a traditional Abruzzese quilt embroidered with asterisks forming continents, placed on a bed. A video shot from her home in Francavilla al Mare shows a fisherman's boat on the Adriatic, with 'A te' written on fogged glass that fades. Another work features a blood-red thread tracing the planet's water resources on a white sheet. A hydrogeological map is made by trapping a thin layer of salt between plexiglass. The show references Zygmunt Bauman's liquid modernity and the artist's family maritime history. The critical text by Maurizio Coccia compares d'Arielli to a dowser. The exhibition runs at Monitor's Pereto space in 2023.
