Daniel Libeskind-Designed MO Museum Opens in Vilnius

architecture-design · 2026-05-04

In October 2018, the MO Museum in Vilnius, created by architect Daniel Libeskind, celebrated its opening with events that included officials and the designer himself. Established in 2009 by Danguolė and Viktoras Butkus, the institution was formerly known as the Modern Art Center. The museum aims to curate modern and contemporary Lithuanian visual art, boasting a collection of nearly 5,000 pieces dating from the 1950s to the present. Spanning 3,500 square meters, the building emphasizes a connection between its interior and exterior, featuring glass walls and outdoor areas that allow for natural light. The opening exhibition, 'All Art Is About Us,' will be followed by 'Animal-Human-Robot' in April 2019 and 'The Decade That Shaped Us' in October 2019, alongside various smaller exhibits.
