Daniel H. Weiss Appointed Director and CEO of Philadelphia Art Museum

institutional · 2026-04-20

Daniel H. Weiss, previously president and CEO of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, will lead the Philadelphia Art Museum starting 1 December, with his tenure extending until at least 2028. His appointment by the museum's board of trustees follows his departure from the Met in 2023 after serving from 2015. Weiss earlier held presidential roles at Haverford College from 2013 to 2015 and Lafayette College from 2005 to 2013. Ellen Caplan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, praised Weiss's museum leadership and strategic abilities in a press release. This change comes as former director Sasha Suda is suing the institution over her dismissal, which occurred three years into a five-year contract, alleging termination without valid basis. The museum faces institutional challenges during this transition period.
