Daniel González Celebrates Personal Freedom in 'Present Monuments' at Boccanera Gallery

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Argentine artist Daniel González (born 1963) presents 'Present Monuments,' a solo exhibition at Galleria Boccanera in Trento, Italy, running until February 2, 2019. The show features colorful works incorporating Picasso-inspired female portraits, sequins, and hand-embroidered banners with phrases like 'Mai più gratis' and 'Me ne sbatto.' González reinterprets Picasso's masculine perspective by using traditionally feminine techniques such as embroidery and sequins. He creates 'ephemeral architectures' inspired by Baroque festive machines, aiming to foster collective memory and social participation. The exhibition coincides with Jared Deery's 'The Hanging Gardens.' González discusses his next project, '#WhatsupArgentina Mi casa tu casa,' opening January 3 at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Buenos Aires (MAR) in Mar del Plata. He invites the public to send WhatsApp messages describing their dream homes, which he will transform into a collective artwork. The interview was conducted by Sara d'Alessandro Manozzo and published in the exhibition catalog presented on December 6.
