Daniel González brings the sea to Milan's Lambrate district
Argentine artist Daniel González (born 1963, Buenos Aires) has created a temporary installation titled "Imaginary Country" in Milan's Lambrate district, curated by Associazione Made in Lambrate. The project, running until December 19, 2017, consists of banners placed along the main streets that display words like "mare" (sea), "montagna" (mountain), "grattacielo" (skyscraper), and "piazza" (square), functioning as analog hashtags. González draws inspiration from "pasacalles," handwritten banners once common in Argentina before the internet, used for personal messages. The work explores the slippage between digital existence and real life, encouraging viewers to photograph the banners and share them on social media, where the piece reverts to its natural digital language. This is González's second intervention in Lambrate, following "Homeless Rocket with Chandeliers" in 2007, when he transformed a construction crane into an artwork by covering it with everyday objects. The Municipality of Milan's Municipio 3 has endorsed the project and proposed its continuation in future years. Sponsors include Logotel, Marsèlleria Permanent Exhibition, and ExBazzi.
