Daniel Eatock's Super Spectrum Exhibition at CorrainiMAMbo, Bologna

The exhibition 'Super Spectrum' by British artist Daniel Eatock (born 1975 in London) has moved from Milan's libreria 121+ to Bologna's CorrainiMAMbo artbookshop. Eatock belongs to a generation of British artists exploring neo- or post-conceptual practices, alongside Martin Creed, Jonathan Monk, and Ryan Gander. His work, rooted in graphic design, subverts the discipline through experimentation. Since the late 1990s, his pieces oscillate between referencing avant-garde classics and probing the essence of graphic practice. Works include 'Drink Drawing' (1997), a Fluxus-inspired piece created through instructions, and 'The world's largest signed and numbered limited edition artwork' (2002), which questions reproduction and reproducibility. Eatock's process-driven approach combines calculation and chance, producing abstract compositions that reveal the variability of ink absorption on supports, as seen in his Pen Prints, Pen Paintings, and Felt-Tip Prints. The exhibition features several of these series. In an interview, Eatock discusses his fascination with the full color spectrum and the paradox of mixing pigments (yielding black) versus light (yielding white). He describes his practice as part of the conceptual art tradition, aiming to dematerialize graphic design, with focus on the journey rather than the destination. His manifesto includes the line 'Trust the process / Allow concepts to determine form,' echoing Dadaist and avant-garde experimentation.
