Daniel Buren’s Non-Retrospective at a French Art Center
In 2016, Daniel Buren staged an exhibition at an international art center that he deliberately refused to call a retrospective, a term he considers antithetical to his practice. Instead, he conceived it as a specific intervention, bringing together works by artists who influenced his career alongside his own pieces. The show was accompanied by a film documenting his exhibitions and interventions from his early days to the present, as well as a publication. The project was covered in artpress issue no. 433, May 2016, pages 86–89.
