Daniel Buren's Colorful Intervention on Frank Gehry's Fondation Louis Vuitton

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Daniel Buren has temporarily transformed the iconic glass sails of Frank Gehry's Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris with his installation 'L'Observatoire de la lumière'. The 12 sails, composed of 3,600 glass pieces, are covered with colored filters arranged in Buren's signature alternating white and black vertical stripes. Thirteen colors create a mosaic of forms and reflections that change with the time of day and season, altering the interior light effects. The work continues Buren's dialogue with Gehry's architecture, engaging public perception. Additionally, from June 2 to 4, the foundation will host '3 times another Hut', three new performances as part of BurenCirque, a multidisciplinary project initiated by Buren and Dan and Fabien Demuynck in the early 2000s, inviting international creative talents to interact with Buren's work.
