Daniel Arsham's 'What Remains' Debuts at Perrotin Dubai
Perrotin Dubai is set to unveil 'What Remains,' the inaugural solo exhibition of American artist Daniel Arsham, commencing on October 30, 2025, and continuing until January 10, 2026. This marks the gallery's first solo showcase since its establishment. The exhibition will introduce a variety of new works, including sculpture, painting, drawing, and a sound installation that explores themes of cultural memory and the passage of time. Arsham will adorn the space with bonsai tree sculptures wrapped in copper, which serve as stereo speakers emitting ambient music, drawing inspiration from Japanese Zen Buddhist traditions and his previous sand zen gardens displayed at Lotte Museum (South Korea) and Musée Guimet (France). Featured in the show is a new piece from his Labyrinth series, 'Stairs in a Labyrinth,' a cast sand sculpture that reflects the styles of M.C. Escher and René Magritte, presenting as a portrait bust from one angle and revealing a maze of architectural levels from another. Accompanying this are a still-life painting and charcoal drawings. Additionally, Arsham will broaden his 'Fictional Archaeology' project with items such as a Rolling Stone magazine adorned with pink quartz crystals, a NY Yankees cap protruding from the wall, and a bronze model of a 1985 DMC DeLorean from 'Back to the Future.' This exhibition represents his first solo endeavor in the UAE.
