Danh Vo and Tarek Atoui's Collaborative Exhibition at Galerie Chantal Crousel

At Galerie Chantal Crousel in Paris, artists Danh Vo and Tarek Atoui transformed two planned solo shows into a single collaborative exhibition titled "Les 'à venir'" (The Coming Community), running until November 20, 2021. Vo presents a photographic herbarium documenting plants from the German countryside near Berlin, where he recently settled, with inscriptions by his father Phung Vo. Atoui's sound installation "The Whisperers" features collected vibrations, timbres, and whispers from materials like water, wood, stone, glass, brass, and bronze, including sounds from Vo's artworks. The artists, who have known each other for years, integrate their practices so that their works "infiltrate, hybridize, support, and lean on each other." Atoui collaborated with a kindergarten class from the École alsacienne in Paris during lockdown workshops. Vo references the 1861 final letter of Catholic missionary Théophane Vénard, copied by his father, which uses floral metaphors for human existence. The exhibition explores themes of community, becoming, and continuous modification, inviting visitors to engage with poetic fragments and acoustic landscapes.
