Dance films take center stage at Torino Film Festival
The 39th Torino Film Festival, curated by Stefano Francia di Celle, features a special out-of-competition section dedicated to dance films, curated by Rosalba Ruggeri. This is the second edition of the 'Tracce di teatro – Il respiro della scena' program, now with a live audience. Ruggeri presents three short dance videos (10–23 minutes) screened in a cinema setting. The lineup includes 'Silver Veiled' by the acclaimed duo Panzetti Ticconi, known for their work between visual and performing arts; 'Preistorico' by choreographer Virgilio Sieni, filmed at the Museo Pecci in Prato and engaging with works by Giorgio Andreotta Calò; and 'Paradiso' by the dance company gruppo nanou and visual artist Alfredo Pirri, directed by Giulio Boato, a long cinematic shot of the eponymous performance. The screenings take place on November 27 at 17:30, with repeats on November 30 and December 1. The festival highlights the long-standing relationship between dance and moving image, which has intensified during the pandemic.
