Dance and Museum: Choreographing the Exhibition Space
In 2009, Boris Charmatz reimagined the Centre chorégraphique national de Rennes et de Bretagne as a Musée de la danse, aligning with a trend that began in the mid-2000s where museums started to incorporate conceptual dance. Notably, in 2013, Charmatz showcased his work at MoMA's Atrium, while Jérôme Bel performed there in 2012. Bel also took part in Documenta 2012, and Xavier Le Roy presented a retrospective at Fundació Tàpies and Museu de Arte de Rio de Janeiro. La Ribot's Laughing Hole was featured at Art Unlimited Art Basel in 2006. Julie Pellegrin observes that major museums are establishing performance departments, indicating a significant evolution in dance exhibitions since the 1980s.
