Dan Miller's Untitled (DM 1145) enters Centre Pompidou collection

Four works by Dan Miller have been acquired by the Centre Pompidou in Paris, marking the museum's second acquisition of art brut. Miller, born in 1961, has been associated with the Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California, since 1992. His practice evolved from dense black-on-white linear drawings to large-scale, colorful compositions incorporating repetitive words and objects. The acquisition includes Untitled (DM 1145), Untitled (DM 1146), and Untitled (DM 1199), all from 2018. Christine Macel, who included Miller in the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017, championed the acquisition. Miller's work is characterized by an obsessive expressionism that transforms perception, moving from an initial horror vacui to more airy compositions. His autism informs but does not limit his art, which transcends boundaries through vibrant, electric imagery. The acquisition also recognizes the Creative Growth Art Center's role in nurturing Miller's talent.
