Damien Hirst to Take Over Both Venice Venues of Pinault Collection

exhibition · 2026-05-05

For the first time, both Venetian venues of the Pinault Collection—Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana—will simultaneously host a solo exhibition dedicated to a single artist: Damien Hirst. Titled 'Treasures from the Wreck of the Unbelievable,' the show opens to the public on April 9 and marks Hirst's return to Italy for a major solo exhibition since his 2004 retrospective at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli. The exhibition is the result of a decade-long project. Hirst has a long-standing relationship with the Pinault Collection, having been featured in its inaugural show at Palazzo Grassi in 2006 ('Where Are We Going?') and again in 2007 ('A Post-Pop selection'). His works also appeared in 'A Triple Tour' at the Conciergerie in Paris (2013) and 'Art Lovers' at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco (2014). Curated by Elena Geuna, the exhibition is part of a cycle of monographs dedicated to major contemporary artists, including Urs Fischer (2012), Rudolf Stingel (2013), Martial Raysse (2015), and Sigmar Polke (2016), alternating with thematic group shows from the Pinault Collection. Two mysterious promotional videos hint at an aquatic theme without revealing details.
