Damiani to Publish Walter Chandoha's 'Family Cats from the Archive'

Damiani will release 'Family Cats from the Archive 1949–1962', a new book featuring dozens of black-and-white photographs by the late Walter Chandoha, known as the 'godfather of cat photography'. The volume draws from Chandoha's archive of over 90,000 cat images, focusing on his own pets, including his first feline muse Loco, rescued during a 1948 New York snowstorm. Chandoha, who died in 2019 at 99, pioneered cat photography with whimsical, intimate compositions. Wired magazine dubbed him the 'godfather of cat photography' in 2015, linking his work to internet memes like Grumpy Cat. The book is available for pre-order via Bookshop.org and Damiani's website.
